Iqaluit is located on the south coast of Baffin island. In 1942 Iqaluit was used as an American air base. The American military left Iqaluit in 1963. Baffin island is one of there major cities(Islands). Baffin island is the largest island in Canada. Ellesmere island is the second largest in Canada.

History
Nunavut joined Canada in 1999. A guy named Martin Frosbier led the hunt for the Northwest passage in Nunavut. Martin Frosbier thought he had come across gold around a bay of water known as Frosbier bay. Martin Frosbier then made the first European contact with the Inuit. After Martin Frosbier, for the next 375 years more explorers came( including Sir John Franklin who disappeared there in 1845). During the last ice age Nunavut was covered in glacier. The glacier melted about 10,000-15,000 years ago. Vikings may of also visited Baffin Island.

Nunavut's main natural resource is diamond mining. Others are gold, lead, zinc, copper, nickel, and fish. They kill fish for eating and for their bones to make bone sculptures. Nunavut has many mines for searching for diamonds. While they are in there, they tend to find gold, lead, nickel, and zinc while using copper tools.
