Capital City and Major Cities
Charlottetown is Prince Edward Islands capital city. It is named after Charlotte of Mecklenburg Strelitz, queen consort of the United Kingdom.
Charlottetown is the largest city in PEI. The Charlottetown Conference took place here, where it was decided to create Canada.
Another major city is Summerside. Summerside was a Mi'kmaq and French Acadian settlement until Americans came during the American Revolution.
Our third major city is Cavendish. Cavendish is inhabited by Green Gables, where Anne of Green Gables grew up. Cavendish is on the north shore of PEI.

Geography & Climate

PEI is located in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. But it doesn't get much fog, it's very warm, and they get 1202 milometers of rain every year annually. PEI gets all four seasons, has long winters, and is only 197 feet above sea level! Charlottetown soil covers 190,200 acres of the island. The landscapes are beautiful there, they mainly consist of many shorelines, patchwork-like fields, and of coarse, their famous red soil. Their soil is red because of the high iron oxide content.
Population, Languages, and Ethnic Diversity

PEI was first inhabited by the Mi'k maq peoples. They lived there for centuries.
Soon the Europeans came, looking for the northwest passage. The Europeans stayed for a while. They soon started the fur trade.
The British came after that. They took PEI for a while, before the American Reveloution. The Americans stayed on PEI till it became a part of Canada.
Now, 39.2% of this island is Scottish, 31.1% is English, 21.1% is French, and 5.2% is German decent.

Interesting Facts
Interesting Facts
![Picture](/uploads/1/9/1/8/19180781/8188545_orig.jpg)
For the fact set-up here, we will start with historic, or inheritance facts:
- The PEI motto is 'The small under the protection of the great' or 'Parva-Sub-Ingenti.' This reflects British history.
- The PEI Coat of Arms has a lion, taken from Prince Edward's shield. Also, the Coat of Arms has 4 trees; 1 big one for England, and 3 small for the 3 counties.
- The PEI provincial flower is an orchid called the Lady's Slipper, the provincial bird is a Blue Jay, and the provincial tree is the Red Oak.
- PEI is the smallest province (Duh!)
- PEI is where Anne of Green Gables grew up
- Because of Iron Oxide in the sand, PEI sand is reddish brown.
Natural Resources
![Picture](/uploads/1/9/1/8/19180781/1421184020.png)
PEI's main four resources are Agriculture, Fishing, Manufacturing, and Tourism. Potatoes are the island's main crop. One third of Canada's potatoes come from PEI. Their red soil is unique to their province and is very good for growing. The fishermen of the island harvest lots of seafood everyday, to be exact, they catch about 1,100 individual shellfish every day. They are said to have the best mussels in the world. Types of fish they mainly catch include cod, mackerel, lobster, and tuna. In PEI, a plant called Irish Moss grows in the coastal waters, it is used to thicken products like ice-cream and pie filling.
History
![Picture](/uploads/1/9/1/8/19180781/8675231_orig.png)
PEI was a huge part of the fur trade. Jacque Cartier went back and forth between France and PEI for the furs and the land.
In the paragraph for Ethnic Diversity, you were told about the juggling languages and diversity in PEI. History is very similar.
The history is mostly fur trade. The Europeans, French, and British all took their turns owning the land. Afterwards the Americans came to stay.
Since there isn't much after that, we can describe events in the order the events happened.
I'm not sure what year Europeans arrived in PEI, but after they left, the French came. The French Acadians came in 1713. They stayed mainly for claiming the land. After that failed, the fur trade kept them coming for about 2 or 3 years.
Afterwards, in 1790, the British found PEI. Cavendish was then founded by three sailor families: The Simpsons, the Clarks, and the Macneils.
After THAT the American Reveloutionary War came around. Some American privateers raided Charlottetown.
And, even though this paragraph is about three paragraphs already, there is more to say. PEI humbly hosted the Charlottetown conference. Then Canada came to be and they lived happily ever after!
